Ok just did a test run on my kineticist with Fire/Earth composite blast. What I am seeing is two entries for damage as the results of the attack. Fire is base 20d6 (lvl 20 composite blast)+ 6d6 (greater kineticist crown) +2d6 (lesser kineticist rod) = 28d6+43 damage base. Then it is x.5 .

Since the kinetic blade doesn't get any bonus dmg from STR though, a DEX build is almost certainly a better idea. Just make sure you get at least 14 STR to wear heavy armor unencumbered. You can find/buy mythril full plate fairly early in the game, so getting a decent AC with some DEX is quite possible.
