Aug 11, 2017 · Combined IM/anesthesia is a dumb idea and a waste of time. It may improve your knowledge, but it does not improve your chances of getting a job. It is impractical. You will end up practicing one or the other. If you try to be both a PCP and an anesthesiologist, you will just end up being mediocre at both.

As far as Anesthesiology vs. EM, I would say EM has better "lifestyle" b/c they work less hours (probably an average of 35 vs. an average of 50 or so) and they are never on call (barring mass casualty or you have to cover for a sick co-worker). NO CALL for EM. and you only work like half the month for full time pay.
