The hazard with valves too tight is the valve may not fully close, which can overheat it if it gets bad enough (and it's sometimes too late to correct when the symptoms make themselves apparent, without major engine work). From that perspective, I think it's important to at least check the valve adjustment.

It started about 6 months ago and did wonder from where it comes so I adjusted the valves; to no avail, the sound is still there. I then thought perhaps it's a broken valve spring, but no they'r all good.The colloquial "standard" seems to be to wait until there is noticeable or excessive valve train noises. Meanwhile exhaust valves tend to stretch faster than there's wear, so get quieter before they get noisier. Until they start to burn, and at the same time risk cam damage. If nothing else, I'd imagine the carbon build-up under the valve cover could be significant by that point.

New here, I recently purchased an 06 Ridge with 230k miles. 229k and change to be more accurate. Previous owner took good care of the truck and maintenance is up to date with only one exception, the valve adjustment. I thought the community might be interested to see what the engine looks like after 230k so I snapped a few pics along the way.110,000 miles and I have noticed that the valves are a little noisy until the it warms up.
