Just bring the corpse to the dino, wait for the sniffing animation, be prepared to run just in case, and then mount. It's weird, it does the sniffing but then doesn't get any taming progress.From the default settings you can only modify the food drain for characters and tamed dinos, so your settings shouldn't have been a problem.
