Basically it lets you get a regular 2nd level class feat instead of spending it on a multiclass feat. It's more limited since you can't use it for non-multiclass archetypes but is generally going to be valuable. Overall, though, I think rogue is the best multiclass for increasing thaumaturge DPR, followed closely by monk.
I haven't played it yet, but the Thaumaturge is thebfirst 2E class that has me really excited to play (and I'm going to untroduce my new Thaumaturge character into the campaign very soon - we're level 8). Thematically I love it. It's a martial character with some magic, it has complex action choices and comolex build choices.I rebuilt a character as thaumaturge at level 6, and went for the chunky ancient elf champion in full plate build. So dex 10, courtesy of the new ability score options. Main goal was to make a champion of Arazni, because rapier can use some help to make it a nice champion weapon. Thaumaturge provided that help. They can (at lvl 10) acquire two scrolls of any tradition of lvl 1 and lvl 2. On top of this I've picked up the Sorcerer Dedication, Shadow bloodline (Occult tradition).
