I believe this is in part due to a possible iOS 14.3 glitch but more likely due to the fact that I only got 3 hours of sleep due to staying up to secure the Airpods Max at 8 am on launch day. Since then my opinion has changed quite a bit after getting a lot more listening to them and with adequate sleep.
