The scaling on both Strength and Dexterity is very low and relatively similar, while the scaling on Intelligence will mostly be relevant for the weapon’s magic damage. Standard greatsword moveset like Darkmoon and its weapon skill is by no means fast (but probably still faster than buffed R2 Darkmoon), but extremely strong and has enough upsides to it to warrant using it often. And it's still less vulnerable than R2 buffed Darkmoon because of the quicker recovery.

There's way too many spells to list all the good ones. But Carian Slicer is excellent fast close range melee option, wat faster than Dark Moon Greatsword. Rock Sling is physical damage so it's great for Magic resistant enemies, and does very nice stagger build up, especially by getting headshots on dragons and similar bosses.
