I think the Northstar is a great motor, im driving a 2000 sts now and it’s my 4th northstar powered caddy and I’ve never had any issues that everyone says they have. I change the oil ever 5000kms and do coolant flushed every year ir so.

The Northstar powertrain is phenomenal. It is completely worth the HG repair, in my opinion. The 4.9L may be less expensive to repair, but it is on the same par as the N* when it comes to reliability, and the N* trumps it by 100hp. If I were you, I would dish out the extra cash for a new rebuilt N*.
