I rubbed some oil on it, and got a mag. glass and saw the JM. On left side of barrel about a 1/2 inch from receiver.The JM SBL's are pretty rare and more valuable than the Remington SBL's. Value is greater also but somewhat mitigated by the Ruger re-introduction of the SBL, however Ruger has now paused production on the 1895's while they build 336's so any SBL is valuable and desirable still.JM Stamp barrel. Lacking a JM stamp when the gun was clearly made in North Haven CT, in and of itself, shouldn’t be a dealbreaker and should have little bearing on the guns value. The JM stamp shows it was made by Marlin in their hey day of gun production- but if it’s missing there are other ways to prove the gun is a legit Marlin, which is what really counts.
