Back when they used USGI parts and before BULA started new production parts. JRA was using some Criterion barrels at that time and there was a batch that had rough chambering. Had to by some cleaning supplies and stuff for my M14 as well. I know my M14 is made with new parts instead of M14 USGI parts but that is fine by me. That being said, I have a regular JRA M14 and I wouldn't trade it for one of the welded ones. I think the real M14 heal is cool for a collector, but as a shooter I like the solid, one piece forging of my receiver. I have no data on the welded M14 receivers, so they may prove to be just as reliable as mine. A very small number were stamped PRM -1. I was informed this stood for PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF MARYLAND. Not being stamped M14 made them legal in Maryland as well as New Jersey. The receivers were forged by BULA Forge. It is my understanding they were made before James River Armory moved to Va. LRB and Bula are generally considered the best builders of forged receivers. A good M14 is as reliable as an M1. I would say a Springfield M1A falls in that category. I am with the others here: take advantage of Springfield's warranty and don't change a bunch of parts out.
