MARLIN 795 .22LR I was looking for an affordable but reliable .22 for plinking and small game hunting and came across the semi-automatic Marlin 795. The gun features a black synthetic stock which keeps the weight down to just 4.5lbs, you can carry this thing all day and not get tired. A ten round magazine and iron sites come standard.Tech sights are awsome, I have put them on marlins and rugers. I dont generally use the whole set. I use the front sight and use UTG 22/shotgun peep on anything that can accept weaver rails. On 1 gun I use the rear sight, marlin 25(it has 3/8 dovetail, not supposed to fit but does).I hear the 795 may be discontinued due to Marlin getting purchased by Ruger. Yep, I've got a 989-M2, the 795 mags work quite well in it. If you have ANY issues with a 795 mag in an older Marlin, it's likely the mag needs a little feed lip tuning. Midway's price isn't bad -- $25.99 as oppposed to $30 at Brownell's -- but it looks to me like the Marlin 707135 on Brownell's list, is exactly the same magazine. Cheaper Than Dirt has those for $14.

I am still getting 1 or 2 stovepipes in every 200 rds, but I still consider the gun to be new, and I have yet to clean it after 500 rds. Overall I consider the 795 to be a very good gun. The only thing I've done to the 795 is to throw a set of Tech Sights on it, polish the bolt, and fiberglass bedded a steel rod in the forearm and weighted the buttstock a bit.The Marlin 795 won't hold a candle to an '80's vintage model 25 Marlin I have. And the Savage 64? Let's just say a Savage model 4 from the late 1930's that rode in horse drawn wagons, was beat up by 5 generations of shooters in the family is still going. When I had my shop going (gunsmith) I had two 64's come through, broken thanks to cheap parts.Shooter's Ridge has FINALLY made the 25-round magazine for the 795 & 70!!
