As time passed, it became more and more frustrating, especially the viewfinder and worrying about battery life. So, I decided to return to my roots!! D780. While doing a lot of online research, I initially was looking at a D850. Liked the features a lot, and the 45MP sensor seems to perform magnificently.
I'm glad to have the Café as a resource. Being new to DSLR's and Nikon (though not photography, as I've shot micro 4/3 for a number of years now and have been a member over on the mu-43 sister forum), there are a number of intricacies of the Nikon system, and it's great to have the experienced members here as a resource.The D810 in DX mode produces a 15.4 mpx image while the D500 image will be 20.9. So the D500 gives you more pixels in a DX sized image. If the DX magnification effect is what you are after I suspect the D500 is the better choice. Regarding high ISO noise - my other body is the D4 which I will shoot up to ISO 12800.One reason for this is because there are no emojis for 11, 12 or 13, so a clock showing 11 o'clock, 12 o'clock, and 1 o'clock (13 in a 24 hour clock) is used instead. Another reason is because clocks indicate time, and the 11th, 12th and 13th guesses are the last guesses you have and so the time pressure is high!Granted the D4S and D5 seem to be more forgiving than the high pixel D850 and Z 9 but I typically shot at f4 with a two body setup, a 200-400 f4 on one body and a 600mm f4 on the second. 5000 iso under pro/college stadium lights, shutter speed of 1/800s to 1/1000s on the hand held 200-400 that tended to be a stop slower than the 600mm …Nikon Cafe. 962 likes. But the SU-800 (Nikon or Debao) would definitely provide more range than your cameras built in flash as well as eliminating the visual flash (minuscule as it is) from showing up in your shot. Also should ever want to transition to a Pro level body (D3, D4, etc) you'd still have a way to control your flashes in CLS.
