Planning to get a new hunting bow compound. These were the top of my list, when I tried them out: Mathews Z7. Bowtech Destroyer 350. Bowtech Assassin. I also want to consider the Mathews Helium, but I haven't yet been able to try out yet. I found the Z7 to be very smooth and accurate, and the Destroyer actually seemed to have a better response.Nothing wrong with shopping based on looks. The worst bow on the market today is still better than the best on the market 10 years ago. Mathews is hard to beat for a bow. Marketing, quality, technology....they have it all. I think they are the pinnacle of Hoyt's cam and 1/2 development - just before they switched to the Binary system. There is a 50-60# Torrex in the classifieds right now for $400. I'm tempted to make my total 3 Torrex's.

Nearly all of the reviews across all archery forums come to the same conclusion - Mathews and Hoyt are the top bows for 2022. I thought Elite and Bowtech closed the gap last year with their patented tuning systems. Most 2021 reviews and testing had the Elite Enkore and Bowtech Solution very competitive with Hoyt and Mathews.The Mathews was shooting at 307 fps vs 296 from the Hoyt (!). I was so impressed by the draw cycle vs. speed from the Mathews. Then you consider the riser length of the Mathews (33.5" vs. 31" from the Hoyt) and the weight (4.25 lbs. vs. 4.5 lbs. from the Hoyt) and the reflex (1.5" on the Mathews vs. 1.75" on the Hoyt)...I would have said Hoyt. Then they just dropped the Z1S Speed Bow for this year. So Mathews did worse for sure. I bought the V3 without shooting it wanting to try the shortest ATA on the market. It’s a really nice bow, but the Hoyt is a better bow IMHO. The ultra had a super smooth draw and nice wall, but the traverse holds better and aims better. Hoyts in most cases draw smooth with the exception of the turbos but Mathews wins with the top hat tuning system in my book. My hoyts always needed to be checked and were prone to string stretch with the fuse strings.

While this isn't a big factor I like the looks of the Hoyt bows better than Mathews. I get a clean pass-through everytime. I found it used at a dealer and got a really good deal at $500 with brand new limbs. Hoyt, Mathews, and Bowtech all make quality product, so find a good deal on Craigslist and go.Mathews, Hoyt, and Elite make the highest quality bows on the market. Period.
