It's kind of stupid that this mod HAS to exist. When in Necramech, your companion is still alive and active: it can die, but you can't benefit from its mods (vacuum/fetch and animal instinct mostly). So you have all the downsides of having to care for the companion, and none of the benefits.

They have limited survivability and do less that a third of the damage of a modded mech/archgun but that is enough to get you through the first 12ish Orphix which completes a reward rotation.

The problem I had with it was that it's not great for damaging the actual Orphix - or at least there are many better weapons for doing that. So you'd need other ways of dealing that damage.
