I just picked up a Colt King Cobra 22 to keep my S&W 617 and Ruger GP-100 .22 company. Having nice speedloaders for the Smith and Ruger are a big part of what make those guns enjoyable to shoot and so I was mildly concerned about what seemed like an absense of available speedloaders for the Colt. But, happy day!
Mine shoots well enough, but the King Cobra and it's close cousin, the Anaconda were not some of Colt's best efforts. Apr 16, 2016 · Colt built the King Cobra to compete with the 686/586. The Python is more of a custom gun with a lot of fine tuning and was not as durable as the 686/586. Also, back when Colt made Pythons and King Cobras the 686/586 was a 6-shot revolver as well. S&W came out with the 7-shot later.
It's an issue with all older .357 K frames, especially with hot 125 grain .357 ammo. The "new" model 66 eliminates this thin "flat" design. It is closest to the King Cobra at 33.5 ounces, compared to 28 ounces for the Colt. The S&W "L" frame is closer to the Python, at 40.5 ounces.

King cobra now that they make the python in a 3 inch is fairly similar, however I would say the KC is more of a carry gun, python is more of a range gun. It has better sights then the KC, and more then likely a solid frame.
